“Today is a great day for science and humanity,” said Dr. Albert Bourla, chairman and CEO of Pfizer.
The German company announced that people who received two doses as part of the trial saw 90 percent fewer symptomatic cases of Covid-19 than participants who were given a placebo.
The results in the preliminary data far exceeds expectations: scientists were originally hoping for a coronavirus vaccine that is at least 75% effective, while Dr. Anthony Fauci had hoped for a vaccine at least about 50% or 60% effective.
The virus which has killed over 1.6 million people worldwide and nearly 240,000 in the USA alone may have met its match! Worldwide distribution may not begin until 2021, as more information about the vaccine and its safety will be released.
